Used so often though that you have to be careful not to be ignored or treated as junk mail. The use of colour and high-impact design is essential, and modern digital print methods allow all sorts of variable data options.

To qualify as a flyer it must meet the following criteria:

• Be informative
• Be no bigger than A4
• Be handheld and intended for individual reading
• Be self-contained
• Be printed on lightweight paper
• Be ephemeral (meant to be read and then discarded)
