What is a canvas print?
A canvas print is an image, artwork or design printed onto canvas material and stretched over a wooden frame. It gives the finished piece a textured, gallery-style appearance. They are ideal for family photos, wedding photos, artwork, illustrations, office displays, exhibition pieces, gifts, branded interiors, wall décor and creative merchandise.

What material is used?
Canvas prints are produced on polycotton canvas, which gives a durable canvas surface with a non-glare matt finish.

What frame depths are available?
Canvas prints are available with 20mm or 38mm frame depth options. The 20mm frame gives a slimmer profile, while the 38mm frame creates a deeper, more substantial wall display.

What sizes are available?
Available sizes include selected square, portrait and landscape options from 200 x 200mm up to 600 x 600mm, depending on the frame depth and format selected.

Can I order a custom size?
Custom sizes may be possible depending on the artwork and specification. Please provide the finished width and height in millimetres so we can advise.

Can my artwork wrap around the canvas edge?
Yes. Canvas prints can have a fully wrapped edge, where the image or background continues around the sides of the frame. Your artwork must extend into the wraparound area shown on the template.

What happens if I do not fill the wraparound area?
If the wraparound area is left blank, the sides of the canvas may show white or unprinted edges. To avoid this, extend your background, image or colour into the full wrap area.

Should I put important details near the edge?
No. Keep faces, text, logos and important image details away from the outer edge and wraparound area. These parts may fold around the frame and become less visible from the front.

Are canvas prints suitable for outdoor use?
Canvas prints are best suited to indoor display. For outdoor signage or weather-resistant displays, a poster, board, banner or acrylic option may be more suitable.

What type of image works best?
High-resolution images with good contrast, clear detail and strong colour usually work best. Canvas has a natural texture, so very fine detail may appear softer than it would on photo paper or acrylic.

Can I print a photo from my phone?
Yes, but the quality depends on the original image. High-quality phone photos can work well, while screenshots, social media downloads and compressed images may look blurry when enlarged.

What resolution should my artwork be?
Images should ideally be 300dpi at the final printed size. Anything lower may print soft or pixelated, especially on larger canvases.

Can I print text on a canvas?
Yes, but avoid very small text. A minimum of 10pt is a sensible guide, although larger text is usually better for wall display.

What file format should I supply?
Please supply a print-ready PDF where possible. High-quality JPEG or TIFF files may also be suitable for photographic canvas prints.

Do I need bleed and crop marks?
Yes. Please include bleed and crop marks where possible. Your artwork should also include the required wraparound area so the image continues neatly around the canvas edge.

Should my artwork be CMYK?
CMYK artwork is preferred for print. RGB, Pantone or spot colours may be converted, which can cause some colour changes.

Can I design my canvas in Canva?
Yes. Export your finished artwork as a PDF Print file with crop marks and bleed selected. Canva artwork is usually RGB, so colours may shift slightly when converted for print.

Will the colours print exactly as they look on screen?
Not always. Screens are backlit and use RGB colour, while print uses CMYK and physical materials. Some colour and brightness variation is normal.

Can SM1 check my artwork before print?
Yes. We can check supplied artwork and flag obvious issues such as low resolution, missing bleed, incorrect sizing or important content sitting too close to the wraparound area. If your file needs correction, design work or retouching, we can quote for artwork support.
